LAGUNA, Philippines — It was the ‘sparks’ story that started it all. Narinig ko sa UP (Overheard at UP) is a popular Facebook group with over 105,000 members as of this writing. On the page, students from different campuses share everything pertaining to life in UP — things heard, seen, shared and felt in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and fields. There was the teacher who treated his entire class to the movies. The students who met each other through vandals on a classroom chair. And that jeep exchange between two boys which made ‘sparks’ a household term.
Now, the most popular stories from Overheard will be adapted for theater. The University of the Philippines Los Banos’ Tabsing Kolektib will be staging ‘Overheard’ from March 11-14 at the NCAS Auditorium, UPLB. The play is written by Jebboy Bagalihog and directed by Eljay Castro Deldoc and Yuri Sta. Maria.

Overheard narrates the life of 4 UPLB students who have different dreams and dilemmas as students, friends, and lovers. Their experiences reflect everyday UPLB life — simple yet complex, free but restricted, exhilirating but also grounded on reality. Though it’s a mishmash of the online community’s most popular stories from different campuses over the years, it also tries to capture current UPLB culture.
The production has 4pm and 7pm shows for its entire run. Tickets will be priced at P90. For inquiries, contact Karen Mae Bautista at +639153731288 or visit Tabsing Kolektib’s official page.
The University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) will hold a Science and Technology Forum and Exhibit on March 4-5 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila. The event, with the theme “making Science Work for Sustainable Development” aims to uphold and promote science and technology in the country as well as to showcase some of UPLB’s most innovative and cutting edge technologies.
